June is the bold and cheeky cousin of Alicia Johns who entertains her form by playing tricks on her teachers. She is the best friend of Winifred Holmes (often called Freddie). She is very like Alicia although she doesn't sneer at people who were ill or didn't have good memory.
During Darrell's time in the fifth June was about to be expelled from Malory Towers for sending hateful anonymous notes to Moira Linton , Darrell's classmate. But Moira realises what if her own sister was in June's shoes, how bad her parents would feel and narrowly saves June from expulsion. June is witty and has a quick mind and good memory, but a sharp tongue as well. She is very shrewd and is incredibly talented in swimming and tennis, although she doesn't take these seriously until she saves Amanda Chartelow from drowning in the sea, early one morning. She makes it to the second team and promises her cousin to carry the standard of Malory Towers high. She is best friends with Freddie Holmes. She later becomes the games captain in her fifth and sixth form and only then she realises the meaning of team spirit.
